Congratulations Dr Savolainen
Our congratulations go to Linda Savolainen, who successfully defended her thesis, entitled “Transcription Associated Recombination in Mammalian Cells”, on 3rd June 2010 in Stockholm. Linda was as cool as a cucumber as she presented her thesis to the auditiorium and even during the gruelling questioning of the faculty opponent Professor Andrés Aguilera, from CABIMER in Seville. There was some concern regarding the length of the opposition after the questioning had gone for almost an hour and Professor Aguilera was still on the first paper. This was remedied, however, and the whole thing ended on time. The thirsty audience made their way to the reception room, where a feast of canapés and bubbly lay waiting them. After some nervous waiting around, the examining committee emerged from their deliberating room and announced that Linda had passed her doctor’s examination. Celebrations carried on into the late evening with drinks and buffet at Kristinehovs Malmgård in the charming area of Hornstull, Stockholm.
Linda, well done for your years of hard work in the Helleday laboratory and for doing us all proud at your defence yesterday. We wish you the best of luck in your future scientific career.
